| I only used the 2 EMPs to see how many I would need to use to always meet the interrupt requirement. I normally swap out all three damage types depending on if I'm solo/group/what I'm hunting.
Also note, that as a JE, for combat exp when I'm solo I'm hunting CL's far below my overall combined level average and I'm certainly not using 2 EMPs. If I'm in a group, the warriors do all the damage - I'm along to JS, provide energy, and interrupt is a new thing. -ShadowDave

In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: New interrupt rules suggestion - trying to be positive for a while :-) |
| EMP contributes to skill interruption on Organics even though no physical damage is done. You're frying their synapses. Note that there are some Organics that have resistances to EMP. This resistance does carry over in protecting from interrupt.
For skill activation, you can decrease the amount of time it takes for your skill to activate by dropping down to a lower level version of the skill. This is what you see NPC's doing when they are getting off quick skill uses - They're using lower level versions. Devices also contribute to interrupt and have the added benefit of being instant. In my experience (as a JE), I can reliably interrupt with one EMP beam. Two pretty much guarantees that I do enough interrupt damage. -ShadowDave |

No, SOME of you want that. And some of you want raids, and some of you want missions that are complicated, and some of you want low level missions and some of you want casual play that allows you to get uber gear and some of you want story missions that are serious and some of you want story missions that are silly and funny and some of you want better loot and .... This time, this specific thing ... is not a solo or small group event. If your small group could do the gate raid then you can do this. If you couldn't before, you still can't.

Again, the feather drops elsewhere too and is aquireable by virtually any level player. If you all insist on trying to gank the Red Dragon base from each other because you don't want to look for the feather elsewhere that's your decision, of course. And, this is on online game played with other people. To do this event you will need to play with other people. It is a tactical fight ... as you'll see when people get a bit further along. If you don't want to play with others then try a repeatable mission that you can solo ... like the Shear healing. There you can do things on your own time and get very nice rewards. Every mission isn't going to require a group or a raid sized force. Likewise every mission isn't going to be soloable.
Oh, it is tactical. You'll see ...
It is doable by small guilds. If your small guild could do the gate before, you can do the pocket version of the gate now. You might want to leave after that part of the event finishes before the rest of the denizens of the area show up -- if you don't want to tangle with them. You know ... I'm going to stop posting to this thread because, as usual, we have lots of people complaining bitterly about how horrible this is for their guild and they haven't even tried the event yet. Jumping to uninformed conclusions makes for great message board rants, but that's about it. Best of luck to those folks working on the mission and defeating the meaner denizens of the pocket sector. Actually the part about the feather isn't quite true. There's a guild controlled area it CAN come from with some frequency, but that's not the only place it is found. And ... yup, you can flee before the big guys come if you are there for the old style gate loot. I'm looking forward to seeing how long it takes you to completely "beat" this epic. In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Am I the only one who finds it funny what the Devs said about the Tado gate and OCD?
| Thanks Pottsey!
My first post got wiped when my browser puked so here's the less complicated version. Stuff changes in the story. We change our minds based on a wide variety of things, including where we find players have become interested in things. So, the Ten-Gu may have more story applicability (and the Bunyip and the Bogeril etc.) than were planned at one time. When questions are answered, they're based on the reality of the story plan at the time. But, again, that changes quite a bit. I mean, we started out planning a totally different starting point of the story and that got changed. We increased the importance of the Psis because of the way players reacted to them. We added the Bogeril as a group players could get faction with ... because players enjoyed the Bogeril. And so forth. While dev team members speak from time to time about upcoming plans, they're both not set in stone and based on their belief about what will happen. Again, stuff changes so those people aren't lying to you, they just can't predict what the future will bring. That's why we don't like to guess too far in advance ... because inevitably if we say something will happen and then it doesn't because things have changed or a priority shifted, you get upset at us. There were a ton of rumors about the New York fan gathering and discussions that occurred there. Since I wasn't present, I have no idea what was promised or not promised. It seems a fair amount of the information you're quoting came from that event. Consider promises from fan gatherings null and void. That'll make everything a lot easier. I can tell you that the expansion of the Ten-Gu seemed a good move to us for a few different reasons, including the fascination players seem to have with the creatures. The addition of a triggered version of the Tada-O gate and the opportunity to create a new sector around it made it that much more appealing. Whether there will be more to do with the OCD remains to be seen. We're certainly aware that you would like us to expand on the OCD/Warder/Hidden One/Oni story. We are working very hard to address everyone's desires for the game, but as was posted ... there's one game and lots of people that want it to be exactly what THEY want. There is no way we can get it right for everyone. Oh, and I'll check out the Psis, but I'm pretty sure something happened to allow them to fly there. I'll look into it though to confirm. In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Something that might help when you write _except.txt |
| I agree it would be really useful if we could do that. When we go to write out an exception, the exception has already occured. Things have already gone south. Until we get a chance to research the problem, its hard to determine what went wrong.
It might be in the graphics system. It might be in the packet system. It might even be in the file system. This last patch fixed a problem in the packet system. Whatever system had the problem may be compromised. If I use any system thats compromised to handle the exception, I run the risk of losing the exception log. So currently the exception handler does the absolute minimum work possible to write the file to disk so that the player has a record of what happened that we can use to try to solve it in the future. In the future, I'd like to add the ability for the client to detect the log and offer to send it to us automatically the next time you start the client. But I don't have an ETA yet as to when I can put that in. Thanks for the suggestion, Cinder So the exception handler has to do the absolute minimum work possible because |

Even if all you are doing is selling everything to a vendor, the DigiApogee stuff is worth a lot more than ore of the same level. 600k for a tech 9 PL is nice from the vendor. For comparison, tech 9 ore from an asteroid is going to go for about 2500 or so to a vendor. Of course, you might get more for certain ores on the open market...but the same is true of the DA items. -Stainlyss

In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Changes made to Pegasus |
| Hey guys, wanted to let you know what is going on, exactly, with Pegasus. We deployed new sector allocation logic to just that server. This new method was put together out of a lot of metrics and some conversations/posts from players about which sectors were particularly bad.
This particular change is meant to correct the situation where multiple heavy-weight sectors would occupy the same processor. We would wind up with some processors coasting at less than 10% capacity while others were absolutely pegged. This is not the only change that we are making to lessen lag, but it is a significant change. As Niobe posted, we are planning a specific lag patch next week. (So all you folks asking me on Peg this morning about it - Yes we are patching. I was just not in a position to give that firm answer when you asked the question. I want to thank the Pegasus community for their patience with the lag. I spent some time on there this morning chatting with people and gathering some final metrics. Even while being understandably frustrated with the situation, you guys were very helpful and polite in answering my questions and pointing me to the right lag-spots. Thank you. One minor change to what Niobe posted: We are not going to do any further reboots tonight to Pegasus. Since lag is, generally, something that takes time to build up, we are going to see how it goes tonight and if any more changes to the allocation logic need to be made, they will be done tomorrow morning. I hope, however, to get it right the first time. Please let me know if any sectors start becoming really laggy again. Certain amounts of lag in large events is unavoidable...I am specifcally referring to the lag where not much appears to be going on, but you still see a second or more between when you type something and when it appears on your screen or a similar time between when you activate your engines and when you see it on your screen. In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Just grand Peggy is going critical |
| Starbases themselves tend to be extremely light-weight...what affects them is what physical machine they are sharing processing power with. We have, on average, about two sectors/starbases per processor. So OMP is probably lagged because it is sharing a process with Blackbeard's Wake at the moment. (Although, when I went to both these sectors, they did not seem very laggy to me...However, at your recommendation, I am still taking process information from them for more analysis)
Some sectors are known heavyweights and get their own home. We are, right now, re-working this sector allocation table to better reflect today's reality of player activity. (i.e. more resources to Cooper, Antares, and Der Todesengel) I sincerely hope that this allocation update along with some tuning of the underlying code/content will result in some nice lag reduction in the next patch. (Please note that I am saying "I HOPE" - I am not silly enough to guarantee anything...) I hope that gives you a little clearer picture into what we are doing to solve this, admittedly, frustrating issue. Now, I am going to stop posting and get some work done. Cheers! Stainlyss

In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Devs seeking info on Black-Hole sufferers |
| So Paycheck Bingo and I are trying to nail down some of the lag and black-holing issues that seem to crop up for some players. We realize that this has been a source of frustration for some of you. Fortunately (or unfortunately, if you are trying to track them down..) these problems do not affect everyone. Since we cannot get these issues to duplicate on test or on live from our location, we would love some player assistance in gathering data.
What we need is a computer-savvy player who regularly has the problem where when he enters the game or gates between sectors, he stares at the system map for the rest of eternity. (This is commonly called “black-holing” and can sometimes only be solved by getting a GM to move your character to another sector) Our ideal data gatherer would be able to recreate this situation in normal gameplay with regularity and be willing to run a packet-sniffer (We use WinDump) from a batch file and then mail the result to me after they have experienced a few black-hole situations. Hopefully, these records will allow me to figure out exactly where the breakdown is occurring when players get into this spot. Of course, the step from there is fixing the issue. If you think you would be a good candidate to help us with this, please respond to this message with your character name, galaxy (So that we can look up your contact info), and a description of the regularity of your black-hole problems, we will contact some of you via Email to explain the details of what you can do to help. In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: Proposed /time command - is someone missing the point? |
| After this patch, the /time command will return:
The time in UTC/GMT based on what time the server thinks it is. The time in your local timezone based on what time your computer thinks it is. We were asked to provide both server time and local time. Since our servers all run in UTC, that is what we provided. I now see that what most of you actually wanted was an easy way to see PST/PDT. It is too late to change for this patch (QA would choke me if I tried to put in a code change right now), but I will try to change it for the next patch. (All the usual disclaimers apply...I am going to try to change this, but I cannot guarantee that my time will not get filled up by other tasks, etc.) That said, I intend to change the /time command so that it returns: The time in PST/PDT based on what time the server thinks it is. The time in your local timezone based on what time your computer thinks it is. I hope that is more in line with your general desires. |
